Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson Rivalry on Hold?
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are the world’s two top ranked golfers respectively. Their rivalry was heating up at the end of this past season when a putting lesson from Dave Stockton helped Phil to edge out Tiger in The Fed Ex Cup. Tiger’s return this season, after his knee surgery side lined him for nine months after the U.S. Open last year, was anti- climactic because he did not capitalize on any opportunities in the Majors in 2009. Even when he was leading Y.E.Yang in the PGA at the turn on Sunday, he could not bring home the trophy and now I think I know why. Even for the top player in the world you must maintain concentration if you are to achieve victory in golf tournaments and especially at the Majors. Tiger was surely distracted in his personal life as we are now all aware.
Tiger’s year has been fairly successful considering the distractions between golf tournaments. Achieving six championships while juggling more than twice as many women is a pretty incredible feat if you think about it. The public was not privy to Tiger’s personal indiscretions at the time of his victories and also his defeat at the last major championship, the PGA, by Y.E.Yang , as noted previously. Tiger has left the door wide open for Phil Mickelson to step right into his potential role as superstar without him in the mix. Phil has all the tools to be one of the best ever but some poor decisions down the stretch on Sunday in the majors have cost him dearly in the past. I think he is smarter now and if Tiger maintains his decision to take a leave from the tour, as he has stated recently, then I think Phil will be the new top dog.
My personal opinion is that Tiger should jump right back into golf competition and quit the women for now. If Elin has decided to leave him, as the most recent tabloids have indicated, then he has nothing to lose by staying and playing on tour with his one true love, Golf. Tiger, gather your golf clubs and golf balls and get back in the saddle. Playing golf and hitting golf balls in Hawaii this coming season and for the New Year will be the best medicine for you. Happy Golfing to All!
In the past when I heard the expression the Dirty Dozen mentioned I would recall the movie from the mid-sixties with Lee Marvin, Telly Savalas and Clint Walker to name a few of the stars in the all star cast. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would be associated with Tiger Woods, the world’s finest golf athlete. Just yesterday they connected nine women with Tiger and I thought that must be it but now there are twelve and who knows how many more may come forward before it ends. There is also a renowned madam who was providing Tiger with all the women and entertainment he could want at any particular time. Tiger seems to go for girls named Jamie or Jaimee, as two of the young women with the most notoriety that are involved with this scandal are named Jamie Junger and Jaimee Grubbs, who is shown in photo on left. There is also a young lady named Rachel Uchitel involved in the scandal too.
I always thought of Tiger as the type of guy who would be in his back yard with his golf clubs and kids hitting golf balls, not philandering around with as many women of the opposite sex as he could who would show him some attention. I think he has the right idea right now. I understand that he has taken refuge on his $22,000,000 yacht, appropriately named Privacy. He is with his wife Elin and privacy is exactly what they need if they want to have any chance to salvage their four year marriage. The saddest part of this whole dilemma is that because of Tiger’s indiscretions he may have to give up another love of his life, Golf . If this is the case then he not only hurt his wife, family and friends but all of his golf fans around the world who will sorely miss him.
Happy Golfing to All!
When I first heard about the incident with Tiger Woods regarding the car accident and Elin going after him with his golf clubs I thought it might just be a typical heavy duty argument over his dalliances. I figured it would blow over in a few weeks and his sponsors would stick by him. Now that the media has gotten hold of the story and a number of women, I think about nine to date have come forward regarding his infidelity to Elin , it has opened up a whole new can of worms.
Tiger may be paying a much heavier price than he ever imagined for what has transpired recently. Gatorade has pulled the plug on their sponsorship, noting that they are making way for new products. Even if that were the case, don’t you think they would want to keep Tiger’s name in the picture as he was a good draw to their product for any sports fans, at least he was before the incident occurred last week. I don’t know how this will play out but he definitely has his work cut out for him to make amends to his wife, his family, the PGA Tour, his sponsors and his many fans around the world. Good luck Tiger, I think you may need it. Happy Golfing to All!
Tiger Woods larger than life personna has exuded an almost god like aura to us mere golfing mortals for the past dozen years or so. Now, almost everywhere you turn for the past 12 days, the hottest topic of conversation on Radio, TV, Cable, Newspapers, and even the casual gossip amongst friends has been focused on Tiger Woods, the premier yet besmirched golfer of the modern era. His supposed squeaky clean reputation as a golf athlete proceeds him and I, for one, would never have suspected Tiger to ever become embroiled in this type of controversial dilemma. I would assume that in general, the golfing and non-golfing public alike would surmise that an athlete of Tiger’s caliber and success would want for nothing. He has a beautiful wife, two adorable children, some of the most notable sponsors in golf, virtually all the money he could ever ask for and his achievements in golf history are rivaled by no one, but yet something was still missing in his life.
I am not making excuses for Tiger, but number one, he is a male and a rich and successful one at that. Combine that with the fact that he’s a world renowned athlete and you have an irresistible attraction for many members of the opposite sex. Given the fact that he is on the road away from his family much of the time, the premise can be a bit tempting to say the least. Once again, I am not condoning his actions by any means because he is a role model for many youngsters. That is part of the responsibility that you assume when you are gifted with the caliber of talent that he has and are constantly in the public eye. But who are we to judge him as far as the whys and wherefores of his actions? If the president of the United States can get caught with his pants down so to speak, and Clinton will not be the first or last, who will cast the first stone? Not I, for I am not privy to any of the REAL information regarding the circumstances that may have led up to this unfortunate incident that has become fodder for comedic retorts throughout the media. If you tune in to the news or read the newspapers or tabloids, it would appear that almost every famous actor, actress, or politician is involved in one way or another in some sex related dalliance. From Pam Anderson, Tommy Lee and Paris, to Spitzer and John Edwards, who are we to judge? It seems like sexual proclivity is the latest trend of the rich and famous who live life in the fast lane. Is this a strategic ploy to revive one’s career so to propegate more money, or is it the intense craving for the limelight that many stars, politicians and athletes are addicted to?
In Tiger’s case one may speculate that he was alone, away from home and the male ego got the better of him. Or maybe he was bored and the excitement of the chase and the possibility of getting away with it was the driving force behind his actions? Could it be that there is something missing in his relationship at home or a void he is trying to fill since the loss of his father a short time ago? The possibilites for what has occurred are endless so let us speculate no further. This incident occurred and I’m sure he is sorry for his actions as he already expressed openly to the public. I wish him much success in his efforts to mend his relationship with Elin. Tiger has a long road ahead but I am still a huge fan and the world of golf would be remiss if they did not forgive and forget this unfortunate occurrence in the life of the world’s finest golfer. His sponsors should cut him some slack to give him the benefit of the doubt and forgive this digression from his long standing status of role model for the golfing public. What is the saying ? “To Err is Human, To Forgive Devine.” and he deserves another chance. Having his reputation tarnished in this manner and the repentive road back to mend his relationship with his wife and family are punishment enough for him to deal with at this critical time in his once illustrious career.
I’m looking forward to Tiger’s return, with his golf clubs in hand, as his presence on the links would be sorely missed if he could not overcome perhaps the greatest challenge of his career as a golfing sports legend. Tiger, we wish you well. Happy Golfing to All!
