Drive for Show and the Dough Will Follow
The drive is a critical shot in golf and creates momentum for the rest of the hole and the entire golf round. Keeping the golf ball in play is a necessity if you want to score well. It is important to use a driver which is right for you and golf equipment that you feel comfortable with.
There are many golf drivers on the market but I use a Taylor Made Burner model with a stiff flex and 10.5 degree loft. Taylor Made is well known through out the golf world as a top name brand which many of the best professionals use. I would recommend the new golfer use a regular flex and at least 9 degree loft when first starting to play golf. Happy Golfing to All!
It’s often said that golfers “drive for show and putt for dough.” This expression is meant to convey that putting is the real key to success on the course, but it isn’t necessarily true. On the PGA Tour, the best pros are the ones who consistently hit fairways and greens in regulation. While it’s undoubtedly important, great putting will get you nowhere if you’re already lying five by the time you reach the green.
There’s only one place that’s appropriate for learning how to drive a golf ball, and that’s the driving range. Avid players perfect their swings on the range long before walking over to the first tee. It’s the equivalent of a concert pianist putting in hours of rehearsal time. By the time you get to the first tee, you’ll be relying mostly on muscle memory. That will allow you to take your mind off the swing itself and focus on distance control and wind conditions.
